Google Ads cost for abortion clinics
Google Ads works on a cost-per-click auction. What you pay for each click depends on how many other advertisers want the same searches in the same area and how relevant Google rates your ad and landing page. There is no fixed price list, and anyone quoting you a single national number is guessing. Open Google Keyword Planner inside your own account, enter the searches you care about and set your location. The bid ranges it shows are the closest thing to a real quote for your market.
Two things make abortion searches more expensive to run than most healthcare terms. First, Google requires abortion certification in the United States, the United Kingdom and Ireland before ads can show on searches about getting an abortion. Certification is not a fee, but it takes time and a flagged account stops delivering until the review is done. Certified providers get a "Provides abortions" label on their ads, which helps patients tell them apart.
Second, you are not bidding alone. A report by the Center for Countering Digital Hate estimated that Google earned about $10 million over two years from ads placed by anti-abortion pregnancy centers. Every competing bidder on the same terms pushes the auction price up for clinics that actually provide care. Budget for management time as well. Search campaigns on sensitive terms need someone checking search terms, negative keywords and disapprovals every week, whether that is your staff or an agency on a monthly fee.
Meta and Instagram ad costs and the risks that come with them
Meta charges by impression or by result through its own auction. Prices vary with audience size, season and how many advertisers target the same people, so the honest answer is the same as on Google. Run a small test and measure.
The rules shape the cost more than the auction does. Ads about abortion services must target people 18 and older, and Meta may ask for authorization before it shows ads that discuss legality, access or cost. Providers have reported accounts suspended under drug policies and restored later. A paused account costs nothing in spend but a lot in lost inquiries, so many clinics use Meta for awareness and keep their booking pipeline on channels they control.
What directories and memberships cost
The baseline listings cost no money. Google Business Profile has no fee. AbortionFinder, run by Power to Decide, and INeedAnA do not charge clinics for a listing, though inclusion is their decision and you need someone to keep the details current. Membership organizations work differently. The Abortion Care Network and the National Abortion Federation charge dues and set standards for members, and NAF membership involves an evaluation. Check their current dues on their own sites before you budget.
Abortion.io is a paid directory, and it is built for a different patient moment. Your profile sits on the state or country law page, in the clinic directory and in the legal options checker, so it reaches people who are still working out where they can legally go. Our comparison of the best abortion clinic directories explains how each listing route works, and our page on abortion clinic SEO covers how these listings support your own search rankings.

How to compare cost per patient inquiry across channels
Clicks and impressions are not patients. The fair comparison is what each channel costs you for one inquiry, meaning a call, a form or a booking request your team can act on.
- Take one month of spend for the channel, including management fees and staff hours at a rough hourly rate.
- Count the inquiries that came from that channel in the same month. Use a separate phone number or a tagged booking link per channel so you are not guessing.
- Divide spend by inquiries. That is your cost per inquiry.
Here is a worked example with round, made-up numbers to show the math. Say a clinic spends $3,000 a month on search ads plus $500 of staff time and records 50 inquiries from search. That is $70 per inquiry. The same clinic on the Featured plan at $74 a month billed yearly would need just 2 inquiries a month from its profile to reach a lower cost per inquiry. Your own numbers will differ, and that is the point of measuring them. The Abortion.io monthly report shows views, clicks and inquiries for your profile, so the second half of this comparison is already in front of you.
One caution while you set up tracking. Keep advertising pixels off appointment and intake pages, and collect as little as you can about what patients searched. If your team needs a structured way of checking that ad and website tracking stays compliant with your privacy obligations, put that review on a calendar rather than leaving it to whoever runs the next campaign.
How clinics typically split an advertising budget
Independent clinic near a ban-state border
Clinics in Illinois, New Mexico, Kansas or Colorado often see more patients from neighboring states than from their own city. A complete Google Business Profile and the free directories come first. Certified search ads cover local demand. The Featured plan on Abortion.io reaches patients in the next state who are checking what is legal at their stage before they search for a city.
Clinic network
Networks get more from one consistent setup than from separate campaigns per location. The Network plan covers up to 10 locations under one account, with inquiry export as CSV and webhooks into your own system, which makes the cost per inquiry comparison by location straightforward.
Telehealth service
Online services cannot use Google Business Profile, because it is built for places patients visit, and paid search has its own certification rules. Directories and law-adjacent placements carry more of the load. Our page on telehealth abortion provider marketing covers those channels in detail.
Whatever the mix, start with the no-fee listings, add one paid channel at a time and keep the one with the lowest cost per inquiry. If you are ready to test a directory profile, list your abortion clinic and compare the first month against your ad accounts.
