- You do not need to live in New York City or New York State to use the Hub or to receive care in the city.
What New York State law allows
The Reproductive Health Act of 2019 allows abortion on request up to 24 weeks of pregnancy. After that point it is allowed when the pregnancy threatens the patient's life or health, or when the fetus is not viable. The decision is made by the patient together with a licensed health care practitioner.
New York law protects people who seek, receive or provide abortion care in the state. The full facts, the official source and the date of our last check are on the New York abortion law card.
How to find a provider in the city
The city runs the NYC Abortion Access Hub, a confidential service that helps you find an abortion provider in New York City, schedule an appointment, get financial help and arrange transportation and lodging. It does not collect or record identifying information, and interpretation is available by phone.
- NYC Abortion Access Hub, phone 1-877-692-2482 (1-877-NYC-AHUB), Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
- The Hub asks how far along the pregnancy is, which type of care you prefer, which borough suits you and whether you have insurance.
- Care is available regardless of age, gender identity or immigration status, and teenagers can receive care at a clinic without a parent's permission.
Our abortion clinics directory lists verified providers with their source and verification date.
Insurance and help paying
New York State Medicaid covers abortion care. Pregnant New Yorkers can qualify for Medicaid at higher income levels and regardless of immigration status, and some medical offices can enroll you on the day of your appointment. People with private insurance should ask their plan what it covers and whether prior authorization is needed.
If you have no insurance or your plan does not cover the cost, funds can help, and you do not need to be a New York resident to contact them.

Coming to New York City from another state
Many people travel to New York City from states where abortion is banned or restricted. Before you travel, check whether your insurance covers out-of-network care and travel costs. Practical support organizations can help with travel, food, lodging and child care, usually once you have an appointment at a partner clinic. Our travel for abortion guide explains how to plan legal care in another state.
The New York Attorney General's Office offers free legal information about abortion access through a hotline at 212-899-5567.
Support and emergencies
In an emergency call 911. For confidential emotional support after an abortion, see our abortion support page. Some facilities, sometimes called crisis pregnancy centers, look like clinics but do not provide abortion care; the city's health department warns about them, so check that a provider offers the care you need before you go.
